“For a few hours I thought I’d died and gone to Heaven… we were in for an urban funk cataclysm. And for 90 minutes it was unstoppable… a Seventies-style soul picnic with a pastiche of tribal ritual. What the whole thing graduates to is a disco party entering the risky area of African trance dance.”
– MAIL & GUARDIAN
“It’s James Brown meets Ray McCauley meets Brenda Fassie meets Boney M meets The Supremes meets Donna Summer meets Ru Paul meets blaxploitation, all thrown into a blender with some seriously funky house beats and garnished with a Tarantino-esque flourish. House of the Holy Afro sends up and celebrates universal stereotypes and archetypes of ‘Africanness’ with a manically mischievous glint in its eye.”
– THE SUNDAY TIMES
“An audacious and wildly energetic fusion of the urban and traditional, this is an explosive night that will have the whole house on its feet and shaking their stuff … South Africa’s hottest noise shamans”
– RIP IT UP, ADELAIDE
“the Soweto Gospel Choir on acid … THE party of the Edinburgh Festival” ****
– THE SCOTSMAN
A night of driving club rhythms, soaring harmonies, electric dance, hip poetry and dazzling lighting.
A highly polished, genre-busting, late nightclub show that dances to the multi-cultural pulse of 21st Century Africa.
HOUSE OF THE HOLY AFRO expresses sophisticated, sexy, provocative style; fusion and integration of African and European, urban and traditional, gospel and nightclub; proudly hip, flash and South African. This is a big show with appeal to a diverse crossover audience in the 20 – 45 year old age group.
